The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

by: F. Scott Fitzgerald

RATING: 4/5

For this novel, I rated The Great Gatsby a 4 not because I loved the story or plot, but because Fitzgerald's writing style was extremely enjoyable to read. I appreciated how Fitzgerald crafted his story and characters but I enjoyed the craft and writing style more than the story itself. Fitzgerald was very descriptive when writing and as a result the reader the can very easily picture the scene that Fitzgerald is describing. The story was still good but it just dragged at times; however, it was a very quick and easy read that was fun and short.

This book made the 1920's sound extremely fun and like a great period of time to live, despite the Great Depression.

I would recommend this book, especially to literary lovers.

Synopsis:

The story is of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his new love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession," it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.

The Great Gatsby is one of the great classics of twentieth-century literature.
